Power Type Genetic(Alien) - The character is from a place where super-powers are normal - or at least the genes for it are normal, even if they don't activate until the character comes to Earth. This also includes characters with alien symbiotes. Medical superscience/ultratech can generally detect and analyze these powers. Genetic(Altered) - These powers were added to the character's genes through accidents, experiments, or super-soldier programs. If these powers inherit, the children usually have them as Genetic(Mutant) powers. Medical superscience/ultratech can generally detect and analyze these powers. Genetic(Mutant) - The character was born with their powers, at least in dormant form, but this is not normal where they come from - they are a mutant. Some mutants are genetically engineered, but in any case the genes for their powers are in every cell of their body, usually because they were engineered as embryos. Medical superscience/ultratech can generally detect and analyze these powers, and if mutants are common, ordinary medical science/technology may be able to. Mystic(Divine) - These powers are granted by the divine, or the character is a (minor?) divinity themselves. Paladins, clerics, devils, angels, and avatars of various deities have this power type. Divine powers(and sometimes powers of other Mystic subtypes) can generally detect and analyze these powers, and often oppose them. Mystic(Sorcerous) - These powers are the result of magic - usually the character is a spellcaster, but some Mystic(Sorcerous) powers come from an enchanted amulet or other artifact. Werewolves, vampires, and zombies are often considered Mystic(Sorcerous), though zombies are just as often Superscience. Sorcery(and sometimes powers of other Mystic subtypes) can generally detect and analyze these powers, and often oppose them. Mystic(Psionic) - These powers are the result of the character's psionic skills. This category is sort-of a cross between Mystic(Sorcerous) and Mystic(Training), though in a particular setting it might be just part of one of them instead. Psionics(and sometimes powers of other Mystic subtypes) can generally detect and analyze these powers when in use, and often oppose them, but they generally can't be detected/analyzed/affected when not in use. Mystic(Training) - The character's powers are a result of extensive training in esoteric disciplines; they may throw fireballs, turn invisible, or simply be impossibly tough. While almost nothing shuts down, steals, or modifies Training powers as a category, Mystic(Training) powers can be affected by anti-magic fields and the like. In general, these powers can be detected by powers of any Mystic type when used, and can be analyzed by Mystic(Training) powers when used, but can't be detected or analyzed when not in use. Superscience - These powers are created by superscience, though they don't involve bringing devices along(that would be Technology(Ultratech), though many characters have powers from both categories). The character may have developed a serum that greatly multiplies their strength and endurance, or found a broken statis chamber that altered their personal experience of the timestream. This is mostly a catch-all type, and very few things affect all Superscience powers… however, Superscience powers tend to be the easiest to target individually, and superscience/ultratech can generally detect and analyze them. If several characters use the same superscientific principles, you may want to define a Superscience subtype for them. Technology(Mundane) - The character uses readily-understandable technology; it may or may not be readily *available*, but an ordinary mechanic would have some idea how to repair it. The most common example is firearms, but the Transformers notably had this power type. Ordinary science/technology can detect and analyze these powers. Technology(Ultratech) - The character uses superscientific technology. While an ordinary mechanic would have no idea how to do any but superficial repairs or modifications, and probably no access to parts, a mad scientist or heroic gadgeteer could do it. Characters often have both Technology(Ultratech) and Superscience powers. Superscience/ultratech can generally detect and analyze these powers. Training - The character's powers are a result of extensive training; martial artists, heroes raised by wolves, and graduates of the school of hard knocks have this power type. Characters with Training powers often have a few powerful Mystic(Training) powers. Training powers are usually less powerful, but are almost never detected, analyzed, shut down, stolen, or modified. A character's basic life functions may also be based on super-powers; for example, an android's entire body may have a Technology(Ultratech) type. This is a disadvantage, since things that affect Technology powers can affect the character profoundly. It also has an upside, in that a gadgeteer teammate can repair them after a battle.
